Fukuoka Asian Art Museum
You can enjoy looking at contemporary art works from all Asia here at Hakata Riverain! The museum exhibits 2,900 art pieces collected from 23 different countries and regions in Asia. Fukuoka City Science Museum
Since the opening in October 2017 the graduate school of Kyushu University-educated astronaut Koichi Wakata has been acted as our honorary curator.
The Dome Theater Planetarium (6F), whose 25-meter diameter dome is one of the largest in Kyushu, has 220 seats arranged spaciously and its 3D digital surround system gives an extraordinary 3D appearance and realistic sensation.
The Basic Exhibition Room (5F) offers an opportunity for learning about many things: the infinite universe, our surrounding environment, technologies that support our everyday lives, structures and mysteries of life, future, etc.
There are also Science Navigation and a science-book library, Laboratory rooms for intriguing science experiments, and a multipurpose Science Hall equipped with a 4K projector where events such as lectures, seminars and theatrical performances are held.

Fukuoka City Zoological and Botanical Gardens
Walk past the many fashionable shops on Josui street and you will find the Fukuoka City Zoological Garden, which is a part of Minami Park. The zoo is a half century old and is now undergoing new renovations set to take 20 years. See endangered species such as gorillas and Oryx leucoryxs, and Raggiana Bird of Paradise, which are rare to see anywhere else in Japan, among the other 120 species. In the botanical garden, there are 2600 kinds of plants including dove trees.

Korokan Historical Museum
“Korokan” was one of the ancient guest houses for foreign diplomats, built in Heian period (794-1185). The guest houses of the time were set up in three locations; Heiankyo (Kyoto), Namba (Osaka) and Chikushi (Fukuoka). Among them, “Korokan” of Chikushi, whose ruins today remain in in Chuo-ward, Fukuoka City, is the only one whose original location has been identified. The museum exhibits remains of the building and trading items of the time. There is also a panel display of the ancient history of diplomacy.
