Ohori/Ropponmatsu Area

Fukuoka-ken Gokoku Shrine’s “Obon Mitama Matsuri” is illuminated by more than 6,000 paper lanterns

At Fukuoka-ken Gokoku Shrine, the festival of Obon, “Mitama Matsuri” is held every year for four days from August 13 to 16.

More than 6,000 paper lanterns are fully placed in the shrine and fantastically light up the summer night sky. The festival has been familiar to people as a popular summer tradition.

●Dedicating Performances (18:20 – 21:00)

During the festival, in the dreamy shrine lighted up by paper lanterns, various dedicating performances will take place such as Kagura dances, Japanese drum playing, Hakata Niwaka comic plays, and concerts.

●Night Market (flea market) (15:00 – 21:00)

The night market will also be held on the road approaching the shrine during the festival.
There’s a lot of fun and interesting night stalls found only in the festival. Enjoy the night-time flea market!
