SHINTENCHO

Tenjin/Yakuin Area

Shintencho is an old shopping mall that was founded in 1946. While it is located in Tenjin, the no.1 trend setter of Kyushu, it still retains a nostalgic feel and is loved by many local residents. The widely known festival, Hakata Dontaku and other cultures of Tenjin were also born here in this mall. The contribution it has made to the development of Fukuoka cannot be ignored. Some of the features attracting foreign tourists these days including the Hakata’s specialty, Motsunabe hotpot, Hakata Nagahama Ramen, kimono shop, where you can get close to traditional Japanese culture, inexpensive sushi shops, Ochaya (Japanese style cafe) as well as drug stores.
At the mall and also on the mall’s website, the guide map of the mall is available in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean.
