2021.11.26It is the time of the year again when the city is illuminated.
From Christmas to New Year’s holiday, the twinkling lights are one of the best things about the season. Here are some of the best illuminations in Fukuoka this winter.
★City of Light Hakata — Magnificent Illumination of 800,000 bulbs at JR Hakata Station
・Period: 4 November 2021 (Thurs) to 5 January 2022 (Wed)

This year marks the 11th edition of “City of Light Hakata.” The 14.9m high symbol tree incorporates “flowers” representing dreams in its basic design. It is a symbol of hope decorated with many flowers and dreams.
The “Forest of Light” with its 50 trees across the square in front of Hakata Station, is an approach to the City of Light, warming the area with gentle glow of lights.
This year’s theme is “Glow alive (Come on, let’s get up!).” City of Light Hakata brings each of you cheer and joy.
◎ Christmas Market in City of Light Hakata
The Christmas Market is being held again this year at the square in front of JR Hakata Station.
You can enjoy the glittering lights and hot wine to enjoy the festive season.

This year’s market likewise will offer a variety of food, including gluhwein and sausages you can only find in Christmas season. Last year’s popular “Shiroi Koibito Hot Chocolate” will also be at the chalet. There will also be candle holders and Polish tableware as well as Christmas wreaths.
★E-ZO FUKUOKA Christmas — Lights, Projection Mapping, and Animal Petting
Team Lab Forest Fukuoka sponsored by SBI Securities presents the scenery of winter coloured by projection mapping for a limited period of time. Dots falling on the fluffy terrain and flocks of butterflies dancing in the space will glow in winter colours. A number of other artworks also have a winter aspect, such as animals made of winter flowers walking around a three-dimensional world with differences in height.

◎Christmas decoration “WINTER LIGHT FANTASY” lights up the Dome and E-ZO FUKOUKA.
“WINTER LIGHT FANTSY ILLUMINATION” glittering lights to decorate the town of winter, is also being held. This year, at the square in front of Gate 7 of the PayPay Dome, there are new illuminated objects of animals and perfect photo spots.
The illumination is also on at MARK IS Fukuoka Momochi and Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk. Come and spend a wonderful winter evening in the Momochi area around the PayPay Dome and BOSS E-ZO FUKUOKA.
★Uminonakamichi Seaside Park “Uminaka Candle Night 2021”

Under the theme of “Kaleidoscope of Light – A New World Full of Hope,” a spectacular candle art display of 10,000 candles will be held at Uminonakamichi Seaside Park. You can enjoy a romantic evening surrounded by the gentle light of candles different from the illumination in the city.
★Bayside Place Hakata Christmas Lights — Collaboration with Hakata Port Tower at Hakata Bay
The illumination of Bayside Place Hakata shows a great collaboration with lit up Hakata Port Tower which stands at Hakata Bay and recently renovated.

★Fukuoka Tower Transformed into a Christmas Present

You can enjoy various designs of lights from different angles; the tower is wrapped in a red ribbon with a Christmas tree if you look it up from the front.

★Enjoy Hakata Old Town Light-up Walk Online
Unfortunately, the “Hakata Old Town Light-up Walk,” in which the buildings and gardens of temples and shrines are illuminated with lights, has been cancelled again in 2021. This year, however, a website has been set up on the city’s website to provide videos introducing the event as well as well as temples and shrines, so you can enjoy various contents online.
On the website, you will find a 60-second video of each of the 12 temples and shrines with their own unique features, including the inside of the temples and shrines that cannot normally be opened and explanations of the temple treasures that have been handed down from generation to generation.
