Kamado Shrine
ย่านชานเมืองฟุกุโอกะThe upper shrine is on top of Mt. Homan, the lower shrine at the base of the mountain. It is believed that Kamado Shrine originated in the worship of 8 million gods at the top of Mt. Homan, which lies to the inauspicious northeasterly direction from Dazaifu, at the time the regional government was established there in the 7th century – in order to protect against demons. Its main deity is Tamayorihime no Mikoto, mother of Emperor Jinmu, worshipped as the god of love and match-making. Large numbers of pilgrims visit from Fukuoka and beyond to enjoy the cherry blossoms and rhododendrons in spring and the colorful foliage in autumn as they worship. Global architects and interior designers were tapped to design and create a new amulet office and visitor center in 2012, and it is now a space that stands out for its interweaving of traditional and modern elements.
