Sustainable Camping at ‘Satoyama’
Satoyama — derived from the Japanese words for village (sato) and mountain (yama) — is a place where nature and people exist in harmony.
At Kanatake-no-sato Park in Kanatake, Nishi Ward, visitors can spend a relaxing time in a rich natural environment. With its natural creatures and agricultural landscape, anyone can become familiar with the ‘sato’ environment and learn about caring for nature and local production for local consumption through the experience of harvesting vegetables and planting trees.

In addition, CO_YARD KANATAKE, a new campsite with café where you can stay overnight in Kanatake-no-sato Park, opened on 26 November 2022.

Consuming local products in Farmnic
Facing Hakata Bay and the Genkai Sea, the Itoshima Peninsula is a treasure trove of rich nature and foodstuffs. Despite being located close to the urban area, agriculture and fishing are thriving.
In the Kitazaki area on the Peninsula, visitors can enjoy ‘farmnic’, where vegetables are harvested using a recycling-oriented farming practices that uses compost instead of pesticides and chemical fertilisers.
Farmnic, a portmanteau for farm and picnic, allows visitors to experience and enjoy the both.
The proragmme content changes depending on the time of year, but you will actually plant and harvest the crops. After the farm work, you will have lunch using freshly harvested vegetables. Enjoy seasonal dishes such as vegetable hot pots and salads, which allow you to directly feel the original flavours of the vegetables, while listening to a talk about circular agriculture.

You can enjoy the bounty of nature on the Itoshima Peninsula.
