Sarutahiko Shrine - Koshin Festival(庚申祭)【Sarutahiko Shrine】2021-2022
Ended Momochi , Sawara AreaSarutahiko Okami, the god who leads everything to a good dierction, is enshrined in the Sarutahiko Shrine.
Originally, the god was enshrined at the entrance near the roads as Dosojin (道祖神) to protect travelers and local villages. It is said that this deity is associated with the belief in Koshin (庚申) because of the name, “Monkey (Saru申=猿).”
Since then, the Koshin Festival has taken place on the day of “Koshin” (also pronounced kanoesaru). ” The pronunciation of monkey in Japanese is “saru,” which is also a homophone word for “leaving.” There are 6 koshin days in a year. Many people will come to seek out the monkey mask, which is only sold on the koshin day to pray for “disaster leave and happiness to come.”
