Setsubun Festival [Sumiyoshi Shrine] 2020

Hakata Area

This is a primary shrine of about 2000 Sumiyoshi shrines in Japan. Sumiyoshi Shrine located in Hakata-ku, Fukuoka City where people believe in for warding off evil and bringing in fortune, safe navigation, protection of ships, and deity of Sumo.

Setsubun Festival will be held on February 3 (Mon), 2020 at this shrine.

The ritual of Oniyarai will be held, in which 4 golden-eyed Hoso-shi, who has a shield and a pike, drives off evil by “momo-no yumi (bow)” and “ashi-no ya (arrow)” which have miracle power to pestilence.

The bean-throwing will be held after the ritual of Oniyarai every one hour from 11:00 at sacred dance stage. If you get a winning ticket in scattered beans, you can play a Fukubiki lottery.

If you get a winning ticket in scattered beans, you can play a Fukubiki lottery.
Visitors who received fortune beans from the shrine will also be able to play a Fukubiki lottery.
Offering for fortune beans: 500 yen
