Fukuoka Castle Sakura Festival 2019 [Fukuoka Castle Ruins/ Maizuru Park] The cherry blossoms of over 1000 sakura trees at the historic Fukuoka Castle Ruins are illuminated.

Ohori/Ropponmatsu Area

The walls and cherry blossoms are illuminated at night at Fukuoka Castle, which is built by Kuroda Kanbei! During the event, Tamon-yagura (guard tower) is open for the public at night and tasty treats are on sale at food stalls!

[Festival Period] March 23 (Sat) – April 5 (Fri), 2019
■Information available hours: 10:00 – 22:00
■Illumination hours: 18:00 – 22:00

About 1,000 cherry blossom trees in full bloom at Maizuru Park.

It is said that the original lord of Fukuoka Domain, Kuroda Kanbei named the land where he built the castle “Fukuoka” after his ancestors’ land, Bizen-Fukuoka (Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture).

Kanbei wished for the prosperity of Fukuoka, and the 400-year-old history of Fukuoka Castle together with his thoughts will be expressed through the light-up of the castle ruins and full-bloomed cherry blossoms in this lovely spring season.

■Lighting Ceremony
The lighting ceremony will be held on the first day of the Sakura Festival.
Venue: Kaminohashi Gomon March 22 (Fri) 18:00–18:50 (tentative schedule)

■Special Pay Light-up Zone (three locations)
– Sakura-en (including Tenshu-dai)
– Tamon-yagura
– Otakayashiki-ato

Otakayashiki-ato and Tamon-yagura are usually closed for the public at night, but they will be especially open for the festival. The space combining with glamorous sights of cherry blossoms at night, sounds and such will take you to a dream world.

*Please note that cherry blossoms viewing in Sakura-en around Tenshu-dai (raised castle area) is free until 6 p.m., but there will be a fee after that.

Hours: 18:00 – 22:00 (last entry: 21:45)
Fee: 300 yen / location for each person 600 yen for 3 locations

Sakura Kids’ Fun Park *Payment required (Korokan Hiroba: weekdays 12:00 – 17:00, Sat/Sun 11:00 – 17:00)
